Parkinson's Disease & Speech

Impaired speech is very common in Parkinson's Disease.  Here are specific symptoms you may notice:

- Speech that is difficult to understand (ie. slurred or mumbled)

- Soft sounding voice

- Slow rate of speech

- Short rushes of speech

- Abnormal voice quality (ie. hoarse, breathy or strained)

LSVT LOUD®

LSVT LOUD® has been around for more than 25 years, and helps trains people living with Parkinson's Disease to use their voice at a more normal loudness.  This program helps individuals recalibrate their perceptions of their voice to improve confidence with speaking at home, work, or in the community.  Click here to learn more about LSVT LOUD®.

SPEAK OUT!â„¢ 

SPEAK OUT!â„¢ by Parkinson Voice Project, is a non-profit organization with a mission to help those with Parkinson’s Disease improve their voice and speak with intent! This evidenced-based program promotes conversion of speech from an automatic function to a purposeful act.  To learn more about SPEAK OUT!â„¢, click here.
